New year - new plan. I have looked up a question for each day of the year. And I will answer them. And share those answers with you. So the first question, today, is: what inspires me?
Well, there are a lot of things. Actually, nearly everything can be inspirational. That‘s why I have decided to give my answer in two parts. First three things that help me think. And secondly three activities that make my thoughts fly.
First and most important: music. There is nothing as inspirational as music. The melodie, the lyrics, the voice, the atmosphere... all of those let my fantasy roar free and my thoughts run wild.
Then there are books, or everything written, and nowadays also podcasts - input from other brains help my brain to think. Sometimes it‘s challenging, sometimes it opens a whole new world of thoughts. It‘s always enriching.
And finally: nature. If you‘re not inspired by natures wonders, then you have serious problems. Every season has its own charm. And it‘s simply astonishing to watch the gras growing, the butterflies flying or the leaves falling.
The three activities - we‘re gonna start with walking, obviously. Or better: any physical activity. Running, Cycling, Aerobics. When the body is occupied, the mind can wander more freely. Also, it helps that with sports the brain gets more blood, more oxygen and more hormones.
Secondly we have: being creative yourself. Wether I play keyboard, sing off key or handcraft something - it‘s equally relaxing and inspiring. Usually I start by following a pattern and than trying new stuff. Often I don‘t just find new artistic ideas but also solutions to totally unrelated problems.
And last but not leas: Writing. This might seem strange, because usually you expect to need inspiration for writing, not the other way round. But letting your thoughts flow and writing without restrictions can really inspire great ideas. And it doesn‘t matter wether you‘re trying to solve a work-related problem, figuering out some personal matter or getting inspired for your next blogpost.
Finally, there is something extremly important: you can‘t force getting inspired. But you also can‘t just wait for it without doing anything. Only wehn you occupy body and soul, then your brain can find new ways and better ideas.
If you can‘t find inspiration with these methods - you always can lose yourself in some rabbit holes. YouTube, Twitter and social media are great for getting lost and wasting time. But they can be truely inspirational, for example when you watch educational Videos or TedTalks. Depends on what kind of inspiration ypu are looking for. (I, personally, recommend starting with the vlogbrothers)
