...my review of Wonder Woman sucks.
And there are several reasons why. But I'm not going to delete it. I will try a second time. Before I do that, I wanted to explain, what happend. Because I didn't realise the reason, why I was unsatisfied with my review. That happend thanks to a podcast. And I want to give credit, where credit belongs.
I love CinemaSins. But when Jeremy takes a movie I like and sins it, I go: oh, yeah, that might be a mistake, but I still like the movie. It doesn't change my opinion. Because no movie is without sin, and most mistakes I already knew. But there are mistakes that ruin a movie. There are mistakes that are obvious, but not ruinous. And there are mistakes that your brain instantly excuses, because they are so unimportant.
And I like to nitpick. I like to find flaws. The problem is, that I easily find flaws in myself. And therefore a part of my brain constantly went back to my review of Wonder Woman and told me: I enjoyed that movie. But your review doesn't show it. And yes, there where mistakes, or things that could have been better. But it is a superhero movie. It doesn't need to be perfect. And the other part answered: Yes, I enjoyed it. But I would have enjoyed it even more...
I tried to ignore them. After all, it's not a big deal. But then I realised that I don't want to write another review like that. I looked at my vast library of movies - most of them I would recommend - hardly any would stand up to my nitpicky brain.
So, I left my blog and didn't write anything.
And I started to listen to a podcast - Hello Internet. I started with episode one. From three years ago, or something like that. Just like I would do with any tv show. Then I came to episode 17. Don't listen to the episode, if you haven't watched the movie Her with Joaquin Phoenix. If you have, go and enjoy.
CGP Grey has an interesting and easy rating system.👍 or 👎. No scale. No comparison with other movies. Just one question: does the movie deliver on its promises? In the case of Her, I'm just not sure, if I agree with him, what the promises were.
That made me think of a new way to review movies. I'm going to do a second take on Wonder Woman. And I hope that it will depict better, what I thought of that movie. And that I can use this as a template for future reviews.
